CHECKLIST: DEDUCTIBLE JOB SEARCH EXPENSES
The costs of looking for a new job in your present line of work are deductible miscellaneous expenses (subject to the 2 %-of-AGI limit), even if you don’t get a new job. 
Deductible:
·       Cost of preparing resumes and letters for prospective employers, including typing, printing, envelopes, and postage. 
·         Fees to employment agencies, resume consultants, recruiters, and career consultants. 
·         Newspapers and trade magazines you buy for the job ads. 
·         Cost of assembling portfolios of your work. 
·         Transportation costs, such as cab fares to job interviews. 
·         Telephone calls. 
·         80% of your meals and entertainment expenses related to your job search. 
·     Out-of-town travel expenses to look for a new job, including transportation, lodging, and 80% of meals and entertainment. 
·         Fees for legal and accounting services or tax advice relating to employment contracts.
